It’s about time I finally got around to making a WordPress specifically for my writing journey!
When it comes to writing fiction, I’ve been dabbling in writing short stories for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had a vivid imagination, coming up with characters and storylines that would entertain me for hours when I was a kid. Playing with dolls was one of my favorite things, because I could make some of those storylines come to life in a way!
Like any good nerdy millennial, I eventually made my way into the world of fanfiction. While I read more than I wrote, it helped me work on my craft in my own private way, using characters that I already loved to practice writing without fear of judgement. My involvement in fandom also introduced me to an event that changed my life forever – NaNoWriMo.
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a simple premise. Write a whole novel during the month of November – which is roughly 50,000 words. While all my novels have ended up longer than that, this is a good starting point for my stories, and when I learned about this event, I was immediately intrigued. I jumped in and participated in my first NaNoWriMo in 2009 and successfully completed it – and I have since finished it an additional 4 times! This showed me that I can write a full length novel, and most importantly, taught me how to go BACK and revisit those novels and fine tune them into finished products.
This past year, I finally took the biggest step towards publishing that I have taken in my life thus far – I finally started querying agents! My foray into querying has definitely had a few more lows than highs, and now I’m interested in looking into self-publishing and seeing if that is somehow better for me. There are so many options but I know eventually I’ll find the path that is right for me! That’s where this blog comes in – this will be my outlet during this tough process, where I can rant, rave, and share updates about my publishing adventures (and mishaps) and all my new projects!
When I’m not writing, you can find me working as a certified veterinary technician! My favorite thing to do is assist in surgeries and act as a doggy dental hygienist. I also have a large presence on TikTok and make vet tech related videos for my fellow veterinary professionals and pet lovers alike. I also love crafting and drawing and have an Etsy shop where I sell vet med stickers and other products. In my spare time, I love working out, walking my dog Shenzi, reading (duh), crocheting, playing video games, and watching RuPaul’s Drag Race.
